Akima Construction Services, LLC supports the construction needs of a variety of government agencies and commercial clients. We are a Small Business Administration certified 8(a) company that provides construction and program management for projects ranging from new facilities and the renovation of major facilities to complicated demolition and disposal work involving hazardous materials. Our modular construction work has been performed primarily on Army bases in support of troop realignment, and in disaster relief efforts such as Hurricane Katrina.
Of particular note, Akima provides construction services in highly secure areas with Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) requirements, including walls constructed to the ceiling with no access through crawl spaces or ventilation systems.
The following contracts, examples of Akima’s past and current performance, illustrate the range of services we provide.
Basic Ordering Agreement (BOA)
for Temporary/Permanent Modular Buildings
In order to streamline the process for procuring modular facilities, the Army pre-qualified Akima and awarded a Basic Ordering Agreement (BOA) in July 2005. The Army’s benefit of having such an agreement in place is the speed of product delivery. Facing many changes through base realignments and personnel deployments, the Army recognized a growing need for temporary as well as permanent buildings in the near future. Since traditional procurement and construction processes would extend the time required for acquiring such facilities by as much as a year beyond the time they would be needed, the BOA agreement and modular building products provide the ideal solution. We have been awarded several task orders under this BOA that include modular classrooms in Mississippi as well as administration buildings on several Army bases such as Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and Dugway Proving Ground in Utah.
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
Baltimore District - IDIQ Contract
Design/Build Services
Under this contract, Akima is responsible for managing the design and installation of HVAC system upgrades in various government buildings throughout our nation’s Capital. The work involves demolition and disposal of existing equipment and installation of new equipment. Our innovative design has major advantages over the conventional approach, allowing installation in very constrained spaces while meeting extremely rigorous design criteria. There are exceptional requirements in terms of minimizing the impact to the building occupants and demanding unusual work schedules
DOE Enterprise - Wide DDR Contract
U.S. Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration
Akima’s responsibilities on this IDIQ contract include dismantling, demolishing, and removing (DDR) structures at various Department of Energy locations around the country. We perform the project management and subcontract the work to companies that provide the best value to the government, based on bid price and past performance. The structures range from heavily reinforced concrete bunkers to modular buildings and contain radioactive and high explosive contamination in addition to asbestos, lead, PCB, hazardous wastes, and other types of contamination. Much of the work is in high security areas, requiring security clearances or escorts. The safety requirements are very detailed and rigorous, well in excess of OSHA requirements.
Samuel Gibbons Federal Courthouse

This work is being accomplished in partnership with the General Services Administration working closely with the building tenants so as to minimize disruptions during the work.
